Pak Lah will go down in history as the worst Prime Minister in Malaysia. He was given huge support to perform reform in post Mahathir era when he received more than 90% popular vote in 2004 General Election. Instead of appreciating the support given, BN generally, UMNO specifically become very snobbish of the new found fame. They just do everything at their whim. The non-Malay beocme receiving end of their new found power to intimidate. Racist statement is made by UMNO people (including Pak Lah's son-in-law) and reported even in the mainstream newspaper. The non-Malay feel betrayed. Due to widespread croynism, even the poor Malay is not receiving any help from the government. All this culminated in the March 8th tsunami which saw BN losing another 4 state to opposition.
Before the election, Pak Lah already under attack by Mahathir. Now after this General Election failure, Pak Lah hater have good reason to ask him to step down. Although he tried to ward off any attempt to unseat him for another 2 years, but failure in Permatang Pauh sealed his fate as a failed Prime Minister.
One cannot help to feel sad for him too. He is classic case of failing to grab opportunity when it arrived at his doorstep. In his premiership, I can only see him as someone who enriched his son and son-in-law while sleep in his job. If not, how else, KJ become Rembau MP now and soon going to fight for Ketua Pemuda UMNO post? But rest assured, his destiny will become like his father-in-law too.
As Mahathir is know as Father of Modernity of Malaysia, Pak Lah will only be know as Father-in-law of Khairy Jamaluddin.
